What is the VA work study program?

The VA's education benefits allow students to gain experience and get paid ($15 per hour in NY). You can gain experience that will help you succeed in the filed you wish to pursue. Students will have opportunities to work in a variety of fields including business, nursing, education, engineering and many more. Payments will occur in 50 hour increments.

Who is it available to?

To qualify students must be receiving VA education benefits and training at a level of 3/4 time or greater.

Students must receive benefits through either Title 38 or Title 10 under one of the following education programs:

  • Ch 30: Montgomery Gi Bill
  • Ch 31: Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Ch 32: Veterans Educational assistance program (VEAP)
  • Ch 33: Post - 9/11 GI Bill, including Transfer of Entitlement (TOE) and fry scholarship recipients
  • Ch 35: Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA)
  • Ch 1606: MGIB - Selected Reserve (SR)
  • Ch 1607: Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)

Apply and get started

You can begin your process by filling out the application and sending it to outreachnyhhs@va.gov before the beginning of their semester. After their application has been processed, they will be required to pass background checks. After they have passed these checks they will then receive assignment to a supervisor and begin their work.
